### Governor of Sinaloa Commended by AMLO for Refuting Claims by “El Mayo”
On August 12, 2024, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador praised Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya for publicly refuting allegations of a meeting with notorious drug lord Ismael Mario Zambada García, alias “El Mayo.” López Obrador applauded Rocha Moya’s actions as “an act of congruence and great civil courage.”
During his morning press conference at the National Palace, López Obrador shared that Rocha Moya had consulted him before issuing his public statement. Zambada García had made the allegations in a letter, prompting Rocha Moya’s response. Additionally, López Obrador called for a thorough investigation into the assassination of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, leader of the Sinaloan Party (PAS), which occurred on July 25, 2024. Cuén Ojeda was ambushed and shot while driving on Mexico Highway 15 near La Presita, Culiacán, leading to his death shortly after.

He highlighted the need for the pilot who flew Zambada García to the U.S. to testify again and expressed hope for more information to be disclosed by the U.S. government, including the pilot’s whereabouts.
