### Demand for Enhanced Measures to Tackle Violence Against Women
In Tijuana, the need for improved police training in handling reports of violence against women remains crucial, according to Adriana Milanés Salas, President of the NGO “Manos Entrelazadas.” She emphasizes that current police forces are overwhelmed and require better training and additional personnel to effectively manage the increasing number of cases.
Milanés Salas highlights the significant deficiency in the number of officers available to respond to incidents of violence against women, particularly in areas such as Natura, Urbi Villa del Prado, and Pedregal, which have reported high levels of such incidents. “The urgency for help isn’t met most times, which indicates a critical need for more sensitivity and action from the authorities,” Milanés stated.
She stresses the necessity of implementing robust protocols to support victims effectively, especially as they are in vulnerable states. Additionally, she calls for the involvement of specialists to handle issues like child sexual abuse and gender-based violence, pointing out that these issues cut across all social and economic backgrounds. Women, irrespective of their financial standing, often suffer in silence, afraid to report the violence they experience.
### Expanding Women’s Services: A Step Forward
In other developments, the municipal government and local agencies are collaborating on initiatives to better address violence against women. This includes reopening shelters for victims as well as programs that aim to identify and support those at risk.
The focus is not only on immediate response but also on sustainable solutions that empower victims to come forward without fear. These efforts are seen as a part of comprehensive strategies to combat gender violence, integrating community support systems and governmental efforts.
Tijuana, being one of the areas with high instances of reported domestic violence, also sees various community-driven campaigns urging for swift action at the local and national levels. Advocates continue to push for more resources and policies that provide both preventative and responsive measures to this critical issue. As these debates progress, the hope is for a society where women can live free from violence and fear, supported by attentive and well-equipped authorities.
