**Solar Car from Tijuana Technological University Earns Five Awards at Reto Solar Chihuahua 2024**
A solar car developed by the engineering students at the Tijuana Technological University (UTT) has achieved remarkable success at the Reto Solar Chihuahua 2024 event. Held from November 22 to 24 at the Technological University of Ciudad Juárez, the Cuervo 4.0 vehicle received top honors, including first place in design and first place in the braking system category.
Guided by their professors specializing in mechatronics and sustainable energy, the talented team also clinched second place for technical performance. They secured third place in both the timed race and the maneuverability test, as evaluated by a panel of experts.
Salvador Morales Riubí, the rector of UTT, expressed his gratitude towards those who contributed through various donations and the sponsors who recognize the emerging talent at the university. He emphasized the significance of using recycled materials, noting that the solar panels used in Cuervo 4.0 had been donated eight years ago for the university’s inaugural competition.
Despite the challenges faced, including fundraising for both the construction of the current generation’s vehicle and its transport from Tijuana to Ciudad Juárez, Morales Riubí reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting future generations in the development of solar vehicles. Since 2016, UTT and Baja California have collectively earned 11 awards in solar vehicle competitions.

**Global Interest in Solar-Powered Vehicles on the Rise**
Across the globe, solar-powered vehicles are drawing attention as a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation alternative. Universities and companies are investing significantly in this technology to revolutionize how vehicles harness energy from the sun. In recent years, competitions and showcases have highlighted impressive advancements in solar car technology, with numerous events being organized worldwide to encourage innovation.
For instance, the World Solar Challenge, one of the most prestigious events in the solar vehicle domain, brings together teams from around the world to test the limits of solar cars. In the United States, the American Solar Challenge inspires students and engineers to design and build efficient solar vehicles that can traverse extensive distances.
The rising popularity of these competitions underscores global interest in reducing carbon footprints and advancing cleaner transportation solutions. As these technologies continue to evolve, solar cars are expected to play a pivotal role in the sustainable mobility landscape, encouraging broader adoption of renewable energy sources.
